Apartheid Israeli Wall edit

I reverted Issavespasiano's Apartheid wall edits because they did not appear to me to be neutral WP:NPOV--I am One of Many (talk) 00:10, 27 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

I just commented on this issue and suggested that someone more knowledgeable ensure the language is not POV. I guess you saw it too! 209.6.85.30 (talk) 00:13, 27 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

NPOV / Edit War Brewing! edit

Who could have seen that coming? Anyway, I made minor grammar fixes, but it's worth noting that the name "Apartheid Wall" is contentious and used primarily by opponents of Israeli policy towards Palestinians--- more can be found at Israeli West Bank barrier#Names_of_the_barrier. User Issavespasiano (now banned or deleted) appears to have inserted this term; his edit summary from yesterday reads bluntly, "I called the fucking wall what it is."

Full disclosure: I'm not a fan of Likud's platform towards the Palestinians, and I think Netanyahu is a major dick, so I'm not here to do pro-Israel whitewashing or blah blah blah. But seeing as this is Wikipedia, we should be calling the barrier by its most common name, and not one that carries strong POV connotations. Someone who knows more about the issue than I should make the edit. 209.6.85.30 (talk) 00:11, 27 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

I agree with you completely. I reverted it because "Apartheid Wall" sounded NPOV and I had never heard it referred to in that way. If it is standard and that can be verified with reliable independent sources, then there is no issue with me. Any changes of substance should be backed with reliable independent sources.--I am One of Many (talk) 02:16, 27 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

The Fence edit

It appears that nobody editing this article has actually seen the movie. Here is a link to an extended trailer: Trailer "5 Broken Cameras". It is a fence and it is called "The Fence" in the movie. So, I'm going to put in fence instead of wall etc.--I am One of Many (talk) 21:48, 27 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

It appears you have not seen the movie itself as in dialogue between the Palestinians it is actually about, they constantly refer to it as "The Wall" so it is very appropriate to call it the wall in the article128.54.152.34 (talk) 10:27, 8 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
The only reference I know of is this Trailer "5 Broken Cameras" and the translation in English subtitles is fence. Also, the fence is shown in the movie and elsewhere. It is a chain linked and barb wire fence. Why not call it what it is? In English, what is shown in the movie is not a wall but a fence. Maybe this is just a matter of translation? In any case, the way to handle this is to see if enough editors will jump in provide arguments one way or the other. If a consensus with references emerges, then by all means, it should be changed to "The Wall" or remain fence depending on the outcome.--I am One of Many (talk) 11:01, 8 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Israeli West Bank barrier edit

In the article Israeli West Bank barrier, "security fence" is used by the Israeli government and "Aparteid "apartheid wall" by the Palestinians. This suggests that the use of either "fence" as I had suggested based on the structure shown in the movie or "wall" may be biased. So, I'm changing all references to it back to "Israeli West Bank barrier" or barrier after it is first discussed. Further discussion should be directed to this page.--I am One of Many (talk) 19:37, 8 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
