Talk:2010–11 Australian Baseball League season

Article structure

I've been looking at season articles for other competitions - both other baseball comps like MLB, and other sports like the NRL - and I think this needs to be re-jigged a bit. The main thing would be turning the "Overview" section into something like "Formation" or "Pre-season" and expanding the first couple of sentences into a paragraph or two (or more), while moving the rest of what's there at the moment into "Regular season". An equivalent piece of info could then go into the currently empty and commented out "Finals series" section. Because this is a fairly significant change, I at least wanted to see if anyone objected to it before I went ahead with it.  Afaber012  (talk)  00:15, 3 October 2010 (UTC)

• "It consisted of six teams" - this is ambiguous as to whether "it" means the ABL season or the Claxton Shield.

• "preliminary final series respectively" - comma before respectively

• "The season allowed each team to make use of a 22-man active roster" - how did "the season" allow something? I would re-word this.

 Done - Changed to "During the season each team made use of a 22-man active roster..."

• In the "Venues" table, the abbreviations should be spelled out (I understand that they might be second nature to an Australian reader, but I had little to no idea what some of them meant).

 Done - Removed the state abbreviations and split them out into a separate column.

• "spreading ten rounds out over twelve weeks" - "out" can be removed without affecting the meaning

• I don't know if it's different in Australia, but I know that "Opening Day" in the US is usually capitalized. If Australian use is different, no worries.

 Done - On reflection, I don't think it was actually referred to as either Opening Day or opening day, either by the press or the League itself, so I've removed the phrase and replaced it with "the season's first game".

• "against each other team"

 Done

• "four team" - compound adjective, should be four-team

 Done

• "Thursday through to Sunday" - can remove either "through" or "to" without losing meaning

• "varying on the series and team" - I am not sure about this wording (it may be an international dialect barrier, sorry)

Not sure - The situation is that each series was a little different. Some started Thursday and finished Sunday, but others either started a day late or finished a day early with a doubleheader accounting for the shorter time. That's what I'm trying to convey succinctly. Happy to change it if you've got a suggestion, even if you think it should be explained like I have here.

• "four of the scheduled 120 games" - comparable quantities per MOS:NUM; change to 4 of the scheduled 120 games

• "resulted in using the Exhibition Ground" - there's an object missing here, I think. Should be be restructured to eliminate the need for one (resulted in the Exhibition Ground being used) or a word is needed (resulted in [x organization] using the Exhibition Ground)

Not sure - I was basing it on it being the first mention of the team in the section, apart from the table itself. Each of the other teams had already been mentioned and linked. I've never been quite sure when it comes to tables and wiki-linking, so happy to follow anyone else's lead with this one.

• "the postseason. The postseason" - repetitive, could this be re-worded?

 Done - Changed to "... the postseason. It..."

• Is there a reason why the extra-inning game scores for the postseason have unneeded spaces and the others don't? Can this be corrected?

Not sure - Hadn't noticed that one before. Virtually every other example of that template being used that I can find - including the documentation for the template - has the spaces between the scores and the en-dash, so I've got all of them with the spaces for consistency.

Usually by MOS the spaces wouldn't be there, but I'd rather it be consistent and spread out (since you have the space to spare) than inconsistent. — KV5 • Talk • 23:32, 16 May 2011 (UTC)

Orphaned references in 2010–11 Australian Baseball League season

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of 2010–11 Australian Baseball League season's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.
