DoB/Age

edit

What is the format to be used on the DoB/Age column? I suggest to use Template:Birth date and Template:Age side by side to calculate the player's age as of the first day of the tournament. For example (using a birth date of September 16, 1981):

  • text entered as – {{birth date|1981|9|16}} (age {{age|1981|9|16|2009|3|5}})
  • will output – (1981-09-16)September 16, 1981 (age 27)

Using that format one would only need to include a remark at the top of the roster page stating that ages are calculated based on the first day of the WBC tournament, March 5, 2009. Thoughts? Ideas? Comments? JohnnyPolo24 (talk) 17:00, 5 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Roster formats

Is their some reason for why we are using this funky format for this page instead of the format used on the MLB rosters? This style is way confusing... how are the names being sorted? They should be alphabetical but seem to be grouped somewhat randomly... is their a reason for this? Spanneraol (talk) 01:00, 25 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Probably because different people are making the edits and not talking about it on the talk page. I tried to engage some people, but no one responded. I'm just not interested enough to reformat everything on my own. Australia's roster is especially goofy because almost everyone has two teams listed; from what I can gather many of the Australian teams are provincial all-star teams. I fixed the Australian roster to reflect the teams listed on the official WBC roster page. For the guys from non mlb teams I'll need to find a source to confirm the teams listed, I'm not sure the Claxton Shield teams should be listed.. On the other teams, trying to make everything uniform. • I have updated all the rosters to match the names on the official WBC website and fixed all the formatting to be consistent within the page. Not sure as to the club affiliations for some of the players, particularly the South African teams... so if anyone has that info go ahead and fill it in.. also need to identify managers and coaches of some of the teams. Speaking of club affiliations, is it appropriate that a minor league player be listed according to the major league organization he is part of? Reading this list sort of implies that these guys (at least those playing in the US and Canada) are major leaguers. I think that showing the clubs they actually play for is more factual and also gives a better indication of the status of many of the teams involved in the WBC.Alanmjohnson (talk) 20:38, 9 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
The official roster pages list the Major League teams... and a lot of the minor leaguers have not yet been assigned to clubs for 2009. Spanneraol (talk) 21:32, 9 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for clarifying. I'd be open to putting in the actual teams despite what the official page says, provided they were verifiable. But as you said, assignments haven't been made yet, so I agree that it would not be appropriate. The way it is is unsatisfying but is also the best solution.Alanmjohnson (talk) 00:45, 10 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

How were the players chosen to play and who chose them? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.9.106.202 (talk) 16:10, 9 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
