Flavia Pennetta did not compete - replaced by Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez in the bracket (reason - unknown)
I find this just bizarre. You would think such an action would be noted somewhere, on some sort of official document of some sort, or get some sort of media play somewhere. Has a through search turned up nothing? Why would the USTA seemingly hide this sort of thing? We aren't talking about the most popular player here, but we are talking about a seeded player.
