Tom McCracken edit

I could find no supporting information, besides some speculation among some Republicans about who they'd like to think about running, to justify Tom McCracken being on the list of potential candidates. If such a source can be found, he should be added back in.Barkeep49 01:35, 20 July 2005 (UTC)Reply

Proposed Merge edit

Please discuss at Talk:2006 Election for statewide offices in the State of Illinois.

Candidate Listing Order edit

The candidates on this page are listed in alphabetical order, by last name, in order to maintain a neutral point of view. Party labels are in parenthesis, following the each candidate's name, as they will appear on the ballot.

Classifications, Terms, and Definitions edit

'These are some key terms used for elections in Illinois.

  • Active candidates are ones that are still in the race.
  • Inactive candidates are ones that are no longer in the race.
  • Party candidacy means to run as the candidate of a politcal party.
  • Independent candidacy means to run as the candidate of no political party.
  • Write-in candidacy means to run as an independent and without ballot placement.
  • A nonpartisan election is one in which all candidates must run as candidates of no political party. In contrast, the Illinois gubernational election is always a partisan election; and candidates may choose to run as either party, independent, or write-in.

Opinion Polling edit

I restored the omission and remainder data in the opinion polling table. Explicitly indicating that Whitney was ommitted from polls is necessary, as not to do so may give the false impression that he was included but failed to achieve even 1 percent, which is not accurate. The remainder data is also important, because it shows how many support none of the candidates or potentially those omitted. If you want to standardize all of the tables, add this information to the other tables; but please don't remove this valuable and relevent information. Squideshi 01:14, 18 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Squideshi, I removed the news-gazette poll. All the other polls listed are conducted by phone by well-known media organizations. I don't think anyone would argue that a rasmussen or zogby poll wouldnt belong. However the news-gazette was an online poll. Even disregarding its wild aberrance from the other polls, the online poll is not authoritative and does not belong. Given the high quality of your other edits, I'm surprised it was put in. 129.64.169.38 20:43, 19 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Agreed. I should have looked harder at this poll! Squideshi 19:37, 22 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
