Minowa is situated between two mountain ranges with the downtown area located at the bottom of the valley. Many streams and small rivers can be found in Minowa feeding the Tenryū River as well as providing irrigation for the numerous small farms in the area.
Lake Momiji is created by the adjacent Minowa Dam off of route 442 and feeds the Sawa River. It is named after the numerous maple trees which surround the lake.
