Meshkan (Persian: مشكان, also Romanized as Meshkān, Mashkān, and Mashgan)[3] is a city in, and the capital of, Meshkan District of Khoshab County, Razavi Khorasan province, Iran.[4] It also serves as the administrative center for Meshkan Rural District (formerly Darreh Yam Rural District).[5]

At the 2006 census, its population was 4,004 in 929 households, when it was a village in Meshkan Rural District of the former Khoshab District of Sabzevar County.[6] The following census in 2011 counted 4,331 people in 1,116 households,[7] by which time the district had been separated from the county in the establishment of Khoshab County.[4] The latest census in 2016 showed a population of 3,540 people in 1,012 households. It was the most populous village in its rural district.[2]
After the census, the village of Meshkan was elevated to the status of a city. [8]
