• Comment: This draft is a draft on a subtopic of an existing article, Singularity (software). Discussion as to whether a separate article for the subtopic is warranted should be on the talk page of the parent article, Talk:Singularity (software).
Please discuss the suitability of creating a separate subtopic article on the talk page of the parent article. Please resubmit this draft if there is rough consensus at the parent talk page to create the child article, or with an explanation that the child draft satisfies either general notability on its own or a special notability guide. • Comment: The new sources added still do not show notability. Needs to be significant coverage. CNMall41 (talk) 01:05, 6 October 2022 (UTC)
  • Comment: As per the WP:GNG, we are looking at significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject. That's just not here. Most of this is primary sources as has already been pointed out. Stuartyeates (talk) 06:41, 11 July 2022 (UTC)
  • Comment: Most are primary sources. 0xDeadbeef 04:50, 5 July 2022 (UTC)

Apptainer is a free and open-source computer program that performs operating-system-level virtualization[4] also known as containerization. Unlike other containerization programs such as Docker which strive to be able to run any operating system service, Apptainer focuses on containerizing applications, especially those run on high-performance computing and high-throughput computing systems. Apptainer is rootless[5] by default since its 1.1.0 release[6], which means that it does containerization without needing to use any root privileges.

The Apptainer open source project was formerly known as Singularity but changed its name in November 2021 when it joined the Linux Foundation[7][8][9]. Leadership of the project transitioned from the original author Gregory Kurtzer to a Technical Steering Committee as specified in the Technical Charter[10]

Apptainer is used for development and research by organizations such as the National Institutes of Health[11], the Argonne National Laboratory[12][13], Fermilab[14][15], the Open Science Grid Consortium[16], the University of Wisconsin[17], the University of Florida[18], and Yale University[19]
