Project Israel To Do:

Here are some tasks awaiting attention:

Broadening the definition on basis of relevance edit

I strongly support this category, to help easily identify individuals for whom the kibbutz way of life is part of their personal background. However, I challenge the relevance of its present definition:

  • This category contains people born in kibbutzim. Emphasis mine

That narrow qualification eliminates those who - though born elsewhere - came to a kibbutz for their education or as adult members - the far more relevant, formative periods of their lives. The number of immigrants to whom this applies, as well as members of ideological youth movements, is significant indeed. Actually, as kibbutz involves living by a comprehensive, applied socioeconomic ideology, one born on a kibbutz and leaving it before becoming a member is less appropriately identified as "a kibbutznik." I therefore suggest:

The individual's page, possibly in the lede paragraph, will clarify to what extent they were part of a kibbutz (and vice versa). -- Deborahjay (talk) 09:48, 6 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

I created this category to sit alongside Category:People by city in Israel, as I believed the criteria for being in one of those categories is to be born in them. However, looking at Wikipedia:Categorization of people#By place, it seems that living in them is a qualifying reason for inclusion - thus I think we can safely include other people (the Hebrew category is probably a good place to start adding people). All we need to do is to change the text from "This category contains people born in kibbutzim" to "This category contains people who were born or lived in kibbutzim."
