Welcome to the Metabolic Pathways taskforce of WikiProject Molecular Biology.
If you have any questions about articles or are generally seeking advice, you're encouraged to ask at the talkpage of WikiProject Molecular Biology, the centralized point for discussion, thank you.

Scope

This Task force is under the Molecular Biology Wikiproject and aims to better organize information in articles related to metabolic pathways on Wikipedia. The Molecular Biology Wikiproject aims to organise some of the vast amount of information that has been and continues to be collected about genomes, proteomes and cell function which is currently stored in obscure databases and journal articles. This task force is focusing on doing just that, for the information on the enzymes and compounds in metabolic pathways.

A list of Metabolic Pathways taskforce members (along with some of their interests) is maintained under the WikiProject Molecular Biology page. To join, simply add yourself at that page and indicate your interests or have a look at the How you can help section below. Although this taskforce is currently considered inactive, it can always be reactivated if there are interested participants!

Goals

Create and perfect articles on metabolic pathways and other related articles, with particular focus on making individual articles on individual metabolic pathway components accessible. The perfect article is complete, but accessible to a secondary school student.

Create a standard system for presenting the information about the enzymes and compounds that are discussed in metabolic pathway related Wikipedia articles.

How you can help

edit

Improve articles

edit
  • The pathway of the month page contains a list of the pages related to the current pathway of interest.
  • Upgrade the infoboxes in chemical and enzyme articles.
  • Improve enzyme images. This can be done using the raw structural data from the Protein Data Bank, the contents of which are in the public domain. Please look at discussion about how to standardize the depiction of proteins.
edit
  • Mark metabolic pathway related stubs with the {{metabolism-stub}} stub marker.
  • Categorize enzyme and chemical articles by adding them to the appropriate metabolic pathway groups.
  • Make sure that all articles about enzymes are placed in the proteins category or one of its subcategories.
