Wikipedia:WikiProject Sri Lanka Reconciliation/Don't re-revert!

This is a proposed clarification or modification of the rule that has been introduced as "1RR" with the Sri Lanka Dispute Resolution Agreement.

For any page under the Sri Lanka Dispute Resolution Agreement ("SLDRA"), any edit that does not at least meet the standards of WP:BRD counts as edit warring.

Typical violation edit

The most typical case is the following:

Action Example Allowed?
Bold edit that follows general Wikipedia rules Addition of "So-and-so was convicted of murder <ref>www.bbc.co.uk/some_article.htm</ref>"  Y allowed
Revert same text removed  Y allowed
Re-revert same text readded  N counts as edit warring

Instead of edit warring, always seek consensus by explaining the proposed addition on the article talk page. If you are unable to reach consensus there, bring it up at WT:SLR.

Note that any re-revert counts as edit warring, regardless of who does it. In other words, if user A adds the text, user B removes it, then no one can add it back. This prevents tag teams and sockpuppets.

Best action edit

BRD provides a minimal standard, but is not necessarily the best action. For each of the allowed actions of BRD, there exists a less aggressive alternative. Choosing these alternatives will demonstrate your good faith and give you a better standing in discussions at WT:SLR.

BRD action Best action
Bold allowed edit Allowed edit with explanation on talk page
Revert Revert only the part that you think violates any rules
Discuss Assume good faith, honestly seek to understand the other user's point, and write for the enemy

Exception edit

If edit warring has taken place and has been reported at WT:SLR, then reversion to the original version before the edit war does not count as edit warring. Example:

Action Example Allowed?
Bold edit that follows general Wikipedia rules Addition of "So-and-so was ..."  Y allowed
Revert same text removed  Y allowed
Re-revert same text readded  N counts as edit warring
Report at WT:SLR  Y allowed
Revert to original Removal of "So-and-so was ..."  Y allowed

Administrative action edit

If a page is to be protected in the event of a revert fight, it is recommended that it be protected in the reverted version, not in the re-reverted version.
