Uploaded by Downwards (notify). This one is pretty amusing. The uploader cites the Arabic Wikipedia [1] as the source. Using a free online translation [2] to translate the Arabic image description page [3], I'm pretty sure they are citing en as the source of the image. The nl wikipedia also has the image [4] and they cite en as the source as well. For our part, the image was deleted in December as lacking sourcing information. [5]. There's a good chance that whatever painting this is was made a long time ago and thus a photograph of it is not subject to copyright in the US ... however, as there is no real source ... ugh ... anyway, I felt it better to bring it to IFD than to just tag it as nsd so that we could get some kind of opinion here on what to do with it.- BigDT 03:01, 27 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I think this is a good image to assign to Wikipedia:Image sleuthing. howcheng {chat} 17:56, 27 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Dunno, is anyone actualy watching Wikipedia:Image sleuthing? The two other images listed there have been sitting around for at least 6 months without any real activity. The place feels rather dead, and I think it's pretty much been superceded by Wikipedia:Possibly unfree images. --Sherool (talk) 05:46, 1 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
There's been some relatively recent activity, but I assume with the number of participants they have (even if some are no longer active), at least someone should be watching it. Then again, I did post it there on the 27th and no one's responded yet. howcheng {chat} 06:02, 1 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Well - this doesn't appear to be rocket science - the original painting this was cropped from is visible here: http://www.naqshbandi.org/ottomans/khalifa/s21_portrait.htm or here: http://www.info-antike.de/regent/regent-e/turkey.htm however the source of the jpg is more elusive since neither correspond pixel by pixel to the jpg image (though it could have been resized) or here: http://www.voltaire-integral.com/Html/14/03LISTE_3.html (too blurry) and here: http://history.wisc.edu/sommerville/351/ottomans.htm (very very close). My guess would be that the image is from some public domain encyclopedia - it's possible it's from a painting (or series of paintings) - it's notable that the most recent person depicted in that style in the gallery at [6] died in 1789, suggesting that perhaps a series of paintings were commisioned for some official building before the next person in the line died i.e. sometime before 1850. This would give the image at least life + 70 years and most probably life + 100 years. It's hard to know definitively - the best bet would be to mail the site owner at [7] and ask him where he got the images from. Megapixie 13:38, 1 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Uploaded by Okitaz (notify). Unencyclopedic (and very childish) image, not linked to any article. NawlinWiki 03:38, 27 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Uploaded by me. The image is now redundant because of a second 2001 poster image and policy apparently does not allow for the existence of more than one on the Wikpedia. It is now orphaned and I request its speedy deletion on that basis. -- Jason Palpatine 04:25, 27 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
neutral somewhat ironically, I feel this does meet the criteria of fair use, since the article it is being used in comments on the style of the typography in the image (and thus the image itself). However it doesn't add a great deal to the article, and it's possible that a free alternative could be found that would illustrate the style. Megapixie 05:54, 27 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It isn't "orphaned," it was removed from all of the articles that were using it. There could be better images to illustrate International Typographic Style, some of the early posters of the style maybe, but those would be have to be fair use as well. What sort of free alternative did you have in mind? Recury 21:40, 31 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Uploaded by Sahands (notify). Fair use image for which a free use replacement exists (see Image:BMW M6 LA Auto Show.jpg). I replaced the image in BMW M6 but keep getting reverted by anon, so I decided to go with a more formal process. howcheng {chat} 16:55, 27 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
