Wikipedia:GLAM/Balboa Park/WelcomeEvent

The event will be held inside the San Diego Air & Space Museum.

The BPOC staff and Balboa Park museum staff have planned a meet-and-greet event to develop a relationship between the Wikipedia community and Balboa Park. The event will be an opportunity to learn how Wikipedia and Balboa Park can help each other, match editors with curators, archivists, and librarians that share common interests, and determine what types of events can be planned in the future. Make sure to come hungry as pizza and drinks will be provided. If you have any ideas about the new project, this event will present the opportunity to determine interest on a variety of new collaborations by editors and Balboa Park institutions.

Event summary

The Welcome event was attended by nearly a dozen Balboa Park staff and Wikipedia editors. The event was a great opportunity to meet BPOC and museum staff interested and curious about Wikipedia and the GLAM collaboration. Over pizza and drinks, a brief overview of Wikipedia, the GLAM project, and WP:GLAM/BP's project page was presented. A few articles were also previewed to look for potential candidates for future expansion. Many of the attendees asked questions about general Wikipedia editing, potential article creations, image donations, and Balboa Park-specific articles. Future events were discussed such as editing workshops, article collaborations, and source sharing. The next steps for the project include developing the to-do list, planning future events, and helping BP staff to register and join in on the project to collaborate within Wikipedia.
