There have been two problems with this account: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business or other organisation or group or a web site, which is also against policy, as an account must be for just one person. Because of those problems, the account has been blocked indefinitely from editing. Additionally, if you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for your contributions to Wikipedia, you must disclose who is paying you to edit.

If you intend to make useful contributions about some topic other than your business or organisation, you may request an unblock. To do so, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:CentralAuth to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy. Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In that reason, you must:

  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block. To do so, please read the guide to appealing blocks, then add the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page, replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason for thinking that the block was an error, and publish the page. I hope I am doing this correctly.

Request reason:

I created this username with the intent of editing pages that was taken down (marketing operations & marketing performance management). I am a single user not associating with any organized group nor am I getting paid for these edits. I am also willing to change the username so that it looks like or is more in compliance with Wikipedia user guidelines.

marketing operations & marketing performance management

Because my user name looked like it was representing a company or group that somehow was benefiting from these articles being posted per Wikipedia guidelines. The guidelines indicate that if I am getting paid I am not allowed. This is not the case as I receive now compensation for this effort. I understand this as MOPs does look like it could. I did not realize it would be flagged.

The intent here is honest. These two pages were removed and the goal was to edit them to fit into the Wikipedia guidelines. I followed the process but needed an account to do it and just quickly came up with this unique one. I want these two pages to be complete and informative to the general public with the proper credentials so that it meets your standards. I am willing to make the proper suggested changes needed to accomplish this and hope you will reconsider. Thank you, Pete/mogulsho@aol.com

Decline reason:

I'm sorry, but I cannot unblock you at this time. Please read Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations.

To be unblocked:

  • you must agree to avoid creating or directly editing articles related to Marketing Operations & Marketing Performance Management (requested edits will still be permitted)
  • you must agree to abide by the Wikimedia Foundation's Terms of Use and disclose any paid relationship in accordance with the paid contributor policy
(In your earlier post, you intimated that the deleted pages were a group project. Your interest reinforces the idea that you are connected with the subject in some way. . If you are writing on behalf of a group or organization, or have any off-Wiki connection with the subject, please read and heed WP:COI.)
  • you must indicate what areas of Wikipedia you intend to edit in the future

If you have no interest in editing Wikipedia beyond writing about Marketing Operations & Marketing Performance Management , then you will not be unblocked. If this is the case, I recommend you consider alternative outlets. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, it is not a platform to inform the public about organizations or concepts. Subjects must meet notability guidelines. All content must be cited from reliable sources that are unconnected with the subject and have a reputation for fact checking."

So we know understanding is mutual, please state your understanding/response to each item in your own words.

To whom it may concern, I am very disheartened to see that this account has been blocked. I have been open, honest and forthright with who I am and what my intentions are. I continually apologize for my errors and provide accurate and forthright explanations. I have continued to read through your guidelines and the feedback that the WP editors have provided me and again, I apologize for my ignorance but there is no business, ill intent or underhanded reason for creating these pages. Only to create an entry on a subject that was removed and to make sure they were the most accurate for the betterment of people seeking information on these subjects. Please allow me to address the following comments. I will try to present in some historical order from my experience as I know some WP are coming in a different times: • “you must agree to avoid creating or directly editing articles related to Marketing Operations & Marketing Performance Management (requested edits will still be permitted) “

I am not sure this is the best way to have someone become a contributor. Accusations and banishment without all the facts is not a good way to win over someone. Some of us are new at this and are feeling our way through it - learning as we go. I continued to ask for your patience as getting up to speed and producing a quality article is not exactly an expeditious undertaking as I am learning. Some of us have had to learn with very limited feedback.

• “you must agree to abide by the Wikimedia Foundation's Terms of Use and disclose any paid relationship in accordance with the paid contributor policy” I have already indicated, agreed to and will reiterate again, I am not being paid for this contribution directly or indirectly. I make no monies, trades or financial gain by contributing to this article. I simply took it upon myself to get it reinstated when the original articles were removed and get some guidance on the right way to do it. Please help me understand, are you looking for some formal, legal document that states this? What does WP want to see as proof? I repeatedly asked WP to bring back those pages and provided guidance to edit them, so they could become in compliance with the WP guidelines. I never heard back so I started from scratch. Please keep this in mind. Since I had no usable feedback from WP on what I could do to make them correct, it was good odds I would make the same mistakes as the original entries. Which I obviously did. “your username indicates that the account represents a business or other organization or group or a web site,” I started with MOPsplus only because I errored in creating an account that looked like a group and with your guidance adjusted it to mogulsho with full disclosure of my actions. I mention this because this too was a learning component of making an entry. There is even an entry that indicates this as my disclosure. It would seem that even though I learned from this error, I am being continually punished for it. “(In your earlier post, you intimated that the deleted pages were a group project. Your interest reinforces the idea that you are connected with the subject in some way. If you are writing on behalf of a group or organization, or have any off-Wiki connection with the subject, please read and heed WP:COI.)” Yes. I had indicated this to be open transparent. But, only because I was familiar with that “group” and the message quickly got around the original MO & MPM entries were taken down. One of the “We” in my disclosures was the person who did the original MO & MPM entries, who I reached out to, so I could learn from them. Outside of this one person, no one in this “group” had ever made a WP entry before and had no way of knowing that a group input was prohibited (how would they?). I solely volunteered on my own to see if I could find out why and adjust the entries. This is not a formal group. In my discussions we never even met as a group and the conversations were never as a group but people sharing ideas via email and phone conversations mostly 1:1. This “group” is more a disparate set of people in a variety of capacities in a similar field that simply wanted to find out why. This type of unit would be no different than a group of WP editors who volunteer their time and outside of WP may have nothing else in common. They don’t get paid and not a money-making group. Like you who want to see the WP guidelines followed, they had an interest to have the entries for MO and MPM be factually correct. And yes, they work in the field of MO and MPM, but not in any formal setting. Once I had learned that groups were not permitted and after I changed from MSOplus to mogulsho I ceased reaching out to any groups to seek info but just did my own research. Yet, that still seems to persist in the mind of WP as it is continually brought up. It would seem that even though I learn, fully disclose the process & past, I am still reprimanded. With today’s access to information, I would like to recommend that you do a search for such a group and draw a more informed conclusion. I am really at a complete loss on this. It has been over a year and I have put almost 40 hours into trying to create even 1 entry out of the kindness of my heart and that is it. I completely understand that you have responsibilities to WP and keeping the purity and objectivity of entries, but just because someone is familiar with the subject and may even work in that field does not mean they contribute for financial gain or is unable to be objective. And I don’t believe it is fair that because I “intimated” (i.e. hinted at or suggested) it was a group is cause for expulsion. I appreciate you giving me the opportunity to express my concerns and give me a voice. With that I am providing my additional research on these subjects since my last feedback I received from you - You had recommended only included articles from objective, established publication organizations. Hoping that from the likes of these would suffice: • Forrester/Siriusdecisions • Mckinsey • Gartner • MarketingProfs • CEO Refresher https://go.forrester.com/blogs/marketing-ops-four-disruptions/ Navigating A New Wilderness: Five Steps Marketing Operations Must Take To Provide Leadership https://go.forrester.com/blogs/marketing-operations-during-pandemic/ The Evolution of Marketing Operations https://go.forrester.com/blogs/marketing-operations-whats-in-a-name/ https://www.mckinsey.com/business-functions/marketing-and-sales/our-insights/how-digital-marketing-operations-can-transform-business# https://www.gartner.com/en/marketing/glossary/marketing-operations Five Ways Marketing Operations Drives a Triumphant Organization During a Pandemic Making your marketing organization agile: A step-by-step guide | McKinsey & Company Make Your Marketing and Company Faster, Stronger and More Agile | The CEO Refresher Why Your Marketing Organization Should Include a Marketing Ops Function The CEO Refresher https://www.mckinsey.com/business-functions/marketing-and-sales/our-insights/how-cmos-can-get-cfos-on-their-side https://www.marketingprofs.com/7/emergence-of-marketing-operations-patterson.asp https://www.marketingprofs.com/articles/2017/32713/marketing-operations-is-here-to-stay-what-you-need-to-know

To answer your question, I am not seeking reinstatement as I believe my only course of action here is to not invest any more time. I would only ask that maybe one of you can invest the time to compile a new entry from this information. I hope this provides you with an ample reason and justification you are looking for to make whatever decision satisfies WP needs and guidelines. Good luck. I hope you don’t have to go through an experience like this. I learned a lot from this process and up until now it has not been a positive learning experience. To have honorable intentions then be repeatedly accused of nefarious actions and blocked and stonewalled at each turn is demoralizing. I consider myself a persistent yet patient person and will always put myself in other’s shoes to get their point of view. However, this has managed to crush that spirit here. I am sure having such a site as WP there are people with just that intention and it must be constant on you to be ever vigilante. While I appreciate that, not all of us are like that. I can only ask that you seek to understand before judgement.

NOTE: Marketing Operations historically is a relatively new business term first coined in 2005 by IDC (https://www.business2community.com/brandviews/act-on/whats-marketing-operations-just-the-fastest-growing-role-in-business-01331014). It did not attain formal acceptance until about 2012-2013 and continues to find its legs inside businesses. People are still learning about it, defining it and it is evolving. I supposed 10 years from now it will be a more common term. Meanwhile, anything, in the marketing adoption curve, is taken on by early adoptions and evangelists who believe in it but not in the business of making money. I would say marketing operations is probably just coming out of early adoption, getting across the chasm and heading for growth. Unlike sales ops, which has been around for decades and fills a similar role to marketing ops, maybe this is where WP is struggling since it is not yet well entrenched. Since you state that you aren't asking to be reinstated, there is nothing more to be done here. You only have access to this page to request unblock/reinstatement, you cannot use it to make edit requests. This request is also far too long for us volunteers to invest time in reading it. If you change your mind and wish to be reinstated, please make a new request. 331dot (talk) 09:22, 21 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
