Welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that the username you have chosen, "ACKChronicle", seems to imply that you are editing on behalf of something other than yourself. Please note that you may not edit on behalf of a company, group, institution, product, or website, and Wikipedia does not allow usernames that are promotional or accounts that are shared. If you are willing to use a personal account, please take a moment to create a new account or request a username change that represents only yourself as an individual. You should also read our Conflict of interest guideline and Plain and simple conflict of interest guide, and remember that promotional editing is not acceptable regardless of the username you choose. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. Thank you. Alexf(talk) 11:32, 11 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi Alexf-- Sorry that this mistake was made. I am one of the founders and contributors to NantucketChronicle.com, a community website by and for Nantucketers. I don't know how correctly to inform people interested in Nantucket of the fact that we exist! Perhaps you could tell me how properly to enter the information about our existence on the Nantucket wikipedia page? I'm happy to do it under my own name if that's the right way to go about it. Thanks, Georgia raysman

Don't know. Maybe an ad in the local paper or radio station? It seems you intend to use Wikipedia as an advertisement medium. That's unwelcome as Wikipedia is not for promotion. If your potential audience does not already know about your organization, Wikipedia is not the place to promote it. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia. Furthermore, the username rules violation still exists. As explained above, with links to detailed explanations, you must request a change of username as this account will be closed soon. Wikipedia's rules may seem harsh and complicated but you would have to agree that by offering an encyclopedia that anyone can edit, rules must be follow, lest it devolve into chaos in no time. Please remember to sign your posts in talk pages with four tildes (~~~~). -- Alexf(talk) 16:28, 19 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

You misunderstood, Alex. NantucketChronicle.com is very well known in the Nantucket community. It's so much a part of the island that its presence as the island's only community-originating website should be part of the information about Nantucket that people find when they look on Wikipedia. It's not promotion I was suggesting, it's information for those interested in Nantucket. 24.218.9.169 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 16:39, 19 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Ok, then there might not be a problem with the link, but there is still a problem with this account's name as it violates WP:GROUPNAME. A new name has to be requested before the account is closed. -- Alexf(talk) 11:30, 20 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
