Background

edit
  • I worked in financial services for almost 20 years, most recently for OneSavings Bank plc in Chatham (which I joined when it was Kent Reliance Building Society) until I suffered a near-fatal motorbike accident in May 2012, following which I spent 7 months resident in hospital and have spent 11 years unable to work; I have no realistic prospect of working in future.
  • I live in Kent (previously very near Medway but a few hundred yards over the border in Maidstone Borough (Boxley Ward); more recently near the seaside in Cliftonville, Margate, East Kent).
  • I have a wife (five weeks younger than me) and a daughter who shares my birthday but is 37 years younger than me.

Interests

edit

I'm interested in:

  • financial services (particularly banks, building societies, mortgages and related topics);
  • the localities in which I've lived or worked;
  • transport - both public and private
  • saving money

Wikipedia activity

edit

Apart from pages covering the subjects I've mentioned above, I've recently been looking at some MOS issues:

  • unnecessary and inappropriate date linking
  • other unnecessary linking e.g. linking the £ symbol in an entirely UK-based article, or the $ symbol in an entirely US-based article

Unnecessary linking takes attention away from valid and meaningful links. Linking which results in serendipitous results (e.g. date linkages) or no useful result at all (linking the £ symbol, other than in subjects which are dominantly currency related) is unhelpful to the Wikipedia user.

This page was previously called WPArgentarius as Argentarius was my old Wikipedia username when I was a banker - which I was for very many years. But now I'm retired so I am MarkyMarkD.
