Iganga Secondary School.[1][2][3] commonly known as Iganga Girls is an all-girls secondary school (high school) located in Iganga district with a special unit for visually impaired students.[4] the school is located two kilometers off Iganga Jinja Highway in Bulamagi sub-county. the school was established in 1958 and currently has a population of over 38 visually impaired students. the school motto is "Aim to serve your country". this is a public school aided by the government of Uganda and an entirely boarding school. Unlike in developed countries like the US, the funds used to run public schools are from both the Government (through the Ministry of Education) and private tuition agreed upon by school PTA committees of the respective school; a public-private interaction funding. Teacher salaries are mainly paid by the Ugandan Government.
However, teachers also receive allowances from the tuition paid by the students. Note that unlike in countries like the United Kingdom or the US, Boarding schools in Uganda do not identify students as being from a high social class. Boarding schools are a convenient way of ensuring that students, mainly those from rural places (60% of attendees) do attend school without transportation inconveniences. the school is fully residential for the students in dormitories and there are a number of them where students sleep.

The church missionary school started back in the mid-1950s as a junior girls school covering the junior one to three levels. then girls from primary six would cross straight to junior one. the construction of the boy's wing started in 1965 and the school gradually became a mixed school and by 1969 it was fully a mixed school and it became a government(public) school at around that time. the school started phasing out boys in 1984 and by 1987, the last batch of boys left the school after sitting at their A level and it regained its status as a girl's school and currently, there are a few visually impaired students who are boys and girls[5]
Academics and co-curricular edit
The school has had a good academic record since around 1995 when they had one of the best candidates at the Ordinary Level.[5] the visually impaired students have also had a very good impact academically on the school as they usually excel very well[4]
the school also participates in other activities like robotics,[6] farm camps[7][8] and science exhibitions where they have had very good track records of performance.
