The Rojos del Águila de Veracruz (Red of the Veracruz Eagle) is a team in the Mexican Baseball League based in Veracruz, Veracruz, Mexico.

History edit

Baseball in Veracruz was promoted by the American and English oil companies that settled in the city at the beginning of the 20th century. At first, the companies promoted this sport between their employees,  producing the first baseball games.

As these companies promoted baseball, the people of Veracruz became interested by this sport. The employees subsequently began to play games on their own. The bosses started to purchase predominantly red uniforms for their employees.

From that time, the team essentially retained the same patch and colors. On 16 September 1903, the Red of the Eagle first played the Indians of Juárez and thus initiated the history of the team with greater tradition in Mexico, being the most ancient team in the Mexican League of Baseball.[1][2]
