Brother to Losa Luafutu who is a founding member

Fa'amoana's sister, Losa Luafutu is a founding member of the prestigious Pacific Underground which was formed in Christchurch in the 1990s. It was established when their family moved from Auckland to Christchurch in the 1990s and Losa, as well as Fa'amoana's wife Caroline Luafutu, saw the need to support the Pacific youth in the area and so opened a youth centre with computers for the kids in their community. This initivative created Pacific Underground, The Woman's Group and The Mens Support Group. Fa'amoana honoured his sister and her work at his hearing with the Royal Commission as she also went through the New Zealand State Care system in the Girls Homes

Late 1960s - Early 1970s Black Panther - Polynesian Panthers Movement Member After getting into a fight with a rival gang at the time Fa'amoana and the gangs were guided by older members of the King Cobras to not fight each other. They instated the gangs of Ponsonby would come under one name, Black Panthers, which would turn into the Polynesian Panthers soon after and become an influential political Pasifika Rights movement which Fa'amoana and his sister Losa Luafutu were apart of in the early days
Mid 1970s - Present Day King Cobras Senior / Elder Member The King Cobras are a prominent Pacific gang, it is one of New Zealand's oldest gangs. Formed by Pacific men in the 1950s who had been through similar traumatic experiences and abuse as Fa'amoana at the hands of the New Zealand government. It was created with the intention of creating a reliable community for a people who had their community stripped from them by the New Zealand Government. Fa'amoana has been a member since the 1970s and is now a Senior Member of the King Cobras.
