About wikignoming

edit

In general, WikiGnomes do behind-the-scenes maintenance work. Examples of WikiGnoming activities include fighting vandalism, tagging pages for speedy deletion (both of which you're great at already), making browsing of Wikipedia easier, wiki-cleanup, creation of categories and templates, etc. WikiGnomes are friendly, like WikiFairies and WikiElves. I personally consider myself to be a "WikiGnelf" — my own made-up word for a WikiElf-WikiGnome combo platter. ;P

What I recommend

edit

I see that you're a member of WP:STARWARS; to be vague, perhaps you could take a run-through of categories within the scope of that project, use any templates (i.e. {{Star Wars}}) to help you, and add the necessary categories to the articles? Or, you could go through Special:WhatLinksHere/Template:Uncategorized and add the appropriate categories to articles listed in that page. HotCat would be a huge help there. With regards to the former task, I recently performed it on the Livin' on Borrowed Time article, using {{Puddle of Mudd}} (a template that I recently created) to help me. Hey Dylan, I'm sorry that it has taken so long to respond but circumstances IRL have been ... strange lately, so I haven't been able to be on much. Hopefully I will be able to be on more now that things have settled down for me. Anyway, I appreciate the suggestions and will start working on categorizing articles that need it. A question: is there some big list somewhere of all the categories that Wikipedia has? It would be good for me to read over that. Also, installed HotCat and love it. :) Thanks again, T'Shael, Lord of the Vulcans 01:50, 25 June 2009 (UTC)
My guess is that there are tens of thousands of categories; a list of all of them can be found at Special:PrefixIndex/Category:, though here's a quick link to all the Star Wars-related ones. Good luck with HotCat! :D Dylan620 (Toolbox Alpha, Beta) 11:31, 25 June 2009 (UTC)
