I’m proposing we remove the template’s link to the image file. I also believe the template loses value when it breaks across lines (as becomes increasingly likely on smaller screens and longer conversations). Where the template currently reads:
[[File:Face-smile.svg|18px]] '''Thank you'''

I propose that it instead read like this:
[[File:Face-smile.svg|18px|link=]] '''Thank you'''

Thoughts? —LLarson (said & done) 17:32, 25 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

@MusikAnimal and Plastikspork: I created Template:Thank you/sandbox and Template:Thank you/testcases to demonstrate my proposal. Is it ready for implementation? Thank youLLarson (said & done) 22:06, 13 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
@SMcCandlish: Because of your help and direction with {{Section link}}[1] and because I haven’t received other feedback here, can I ask you to take a look at—and perhaps implement—the above proposal? Thank you. —LLarson (said & done) 03:29, 22 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
Done. @LLarson: Almost a month and no objections seems reasonable. This isn't an admin action, so if there's a problem with it, someone can just revert or ask me to self-revert.  — SMcCandlish ¢ ≽ʌⱷ҅ʌ≼  05:07, 22 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

Please add |alt=Smiley or similar description per MOS:ACCESS#Images. —Sangdeboeuf (talk) 02:04, 22 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

Not done: The image is an icon, not a stand-alone image, and doesn't actually add anything to the content of the message. The bolded text of the message serves the same purpose and conveys the same essential information as the image. It is there as a visual reference to catch the reader's eye, and to someone using a screen reader it would actually make it more difficult to understand the message as there would be extra unnecessary text to read, and no information or functionality is lost by it not being there. See the last example at Wikipedia:Alternative text for images#Examples. Ahecht (TALK

There is a move discussion in progress on Template talk:Ty, Inc. which affects this page. Please participate on that page and not in this talk page section. Thank you. —RMCD bot 13:03, 26 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
