List edit

The following list is stored at Template:Contentious topics/list.

The following topics are currently designated as contentious topics. The italicised link after each topic names the associated arbitration decision.

Previously authorised

The following topics have previously been designated as contentious topics, or had discretionary sanctions authorised under the previously used procedure, but this designation has been rescinded or superseded by later cases. The italicised link after each topic names the associated arbitration decision.

Overview edit

The purpose of this page is to centralise the various lists of topics that are currently designated as contentious topics. There are three such lists:

  1. The list of valid codes for all the topics.
  2. The human-readable list of topics of the form Pages relating to <affected articles> (<link to arbitration case>) – <Additional notes>
  3. The list of links to any final decisions that contain remedies which designate a topic as a contentious topic, and
  4. The list of affected articles.

Lists (2) and (3) are primarily used on templates used to give "warnings" of the existence of the contentious topics system or to serve notice to an editor who is actually subject to a restriction. Please see here for an automatically-produced list of pages on which this template is used. Due to the ugly output of the list, this template deliberately appears blank. When new contentious topics are designated, the Arbitration Committee's clerks only need to update this list and Template:Contentious topics/table (excluding Wikipedia:General sanctions and other very large lists that cannot be included in this template).

Use edit

The template takes one parameter, the value for which depends on the type of list you want to return. Corresponding to the three lists specified in #Overview, the acceptable values for this parameter are |code exists=, |scope=, |link=, |topic-subpage= and |list=. For example:
