Statutory instruments/rules before 1998

edit

The classes of "Northern Ireland Statutory Instrument" and "Northern Ireland Statutory Rules" on legislation.gov.uk includes Orders and Regulations made by central government between 1972 and 1998 when Northern Ireland had no parliament or assembly (for example the Road Traffic (Northern Ireland) Order 1981 and the Motor Vehicles (Invalid Carriages) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1993). Unfortunately the template currently credits the Northern Ireland Assembly regardless. Please fix this to credit the UK Privy Council instead, or (preferably) add a parameter to let the user specify it. Hairy Dude (talk) 17:59, 14 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

  • In the sandbox I've added support for specifying the legislature, and also all the other types of NI legislation: Acts of the Irish Parliament (which must be cited by regnal year using |year=, |regnal=, |year_url= and |regnal_url= – the latter two being how they appear in the URL), Measures of the 1974 Assembly (even though there are only two of them), Acts of the Northern Ireland Parliament, and Statutory Rules and Orders. These construct a citation automatically. I'd like to have done that for the existing types, but that would break existing uses. I've added some test cases so you can see what's changed. Note there are a few differences even with what was already supported – I've removed the defaults as I think they're harmful, and the italics because they're contrary to MOS; and the default legislature for Orders in Council is the Privy Council, which I believe should always be credited for them.
