name:

• case-insensitive
• as on the roster
• dashes instead of spaces

gender:

• m = men's sports
• w = women's sports

sport:

• bs = baseball
• bk = basketball
• cc = cross-country
• fb = football
• go = golf
• gy = gymnastics
• sb = softball
• sc = soccer
• sd = swimming-diving
• tn = tennis
• tf = track-field
• vb = volleyball

Thus a template for Jimmer Fredette would be as follows:

{{BYU athlete|jimmer-fredette|m|bk}}

Note that by default the link text is the same as the article name. To override this feature, add |name=display name, where display name is the link text.
