Lead:

  • In the lead I'm counting the word bout 10 times. Anything else that can be used to add some variety? In fact, it's a problem right through the article.
I've gone through the entire article and changed several countings of the word "bout" to either "match" or "fight".
  • "The world title bout took place on July 26, 2008" - What exactly was on the line here? It says it was a world title fight, but no mention of which organizations title was being fought for.
WBA welterweight title. I have now mentioned it in the lead.
  • "Cotto and Margarito's aggressive boxing styles led to much praise from the bout." > better as "led to the bout being highly praised"? And by whom - critics?
From sports writers, it has been included in the lead.
  • "after landing enough punches to force the referee to stop the bout." - Throwing plenty of punches doesn't usually directly get a fight stopped does it? Was Lewis not defending himself or something?
I've changed it to Margarito won the fight by second round technical knockout after a significant amount of punches from Margarito led to a stoppage from the referee. Does it sound better?
Yep, that's clearer. AlexJ (talk) 19:36, 11 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Pre-fight info:

  • "According to Bob Arum, the bout took place in Las Vegas to promote Cotto to a new audience while also appealing to Margarito's Mexican American fans in California." - There's no citation here.
Reference 31
Because that sentence is effectively quoting someone's opinion (even if it's paraphrased) I'd prefer to see a cite directly after the sentence even if it's the same cite as a few sentences further on. AlexJ (talk) 19:36, 11 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
Ok Source 31 is now after the sentence Rvk41 (talk) 03:50, 13 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
  • In the first paragraph of this section "The title bout took place at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas," and then again in the second "the bout took place at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas."
I removed "MGM Grand" from the first paragraph and "Las Vegas" from the second paragraph. Is that okay?
Yes, avoids the repetition. AlexJ (talk) 19:36, 11 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Bout summary:

  • Maybe the first paragraph is a little light on references. Perhaps add one for Margarito's low blows?
Everything after Reference 45 is sourced by Reference 46, including the low blows.

Reception & Aftermath:

  • Both fairly short sections, would they be better combined as one "Post-fight" section?
I've gone ahead and combined them.
  • How many PPV buys were made?
450,000, I've included it.

Images:

  • Fight poster needs a few fields filled out in the pro-forma: basically you need to put "Whole work" in the portion used, "Yes" in the low resolution, and "No" in the replaceable box.
Done. Rvk41 (talk) 17:09, 11 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
  • The other two photos are OK.

Other than that, it's a good article - if the above is fixed within seven days, I'll promote it. AlexJ (talk) 16:12, 10 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Whoops, must have missed this when checking my watchlist. Looks like everything's been fixed and it meets the criteria, so I've promoted the article. Good work! AlexJ (talk) 19:26, 16 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
