Time of formation of the Phoenix Plate - contradiction
editThe contradiction between the article text and the map image should be addressed. The map image allegedly shows the Phoenix Plate in existence 250 million years ago (at the start of the Mesozoic) but the article states that the plate existed from the mid-Mesozoic (from about 170 million years ago). - @GeoWriter: The article claimed the Phoenix Plate existed "during" the mid-Mesozoic, not "from" the mid-Mesozoic - there's a difference. Anyway I have changed "mid-Mesozoic" to "Mesozoic". Volcanoguy 20:46, 6 April 2020 (UTC)
- The previous text ("a tectonic plate that existed during the mid-Mesozoic through late-Cenozoic time") was problematic because the time range was early date to end date but readers usually assume that time ranges are given as start date to end date. Readers would have reasonably, but mistakenly, assumed that mid-Mesozoic was the start date. "During the Mesozoic" is an improvement because it corrects the misleading assumed start date of the plate's existence and also removes the apparent contradiction between the first paragraph of this article's text and the map caption text.
