Hector Memorial Medal and Hector Medal

edit

It seems to have changed from Hector Memorial Medal to Hector Medal at some point. If so, I wonder when. Nurg (talk) 22:49, 8 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

It's been referred to as both for a long time. See http://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/cgi-bin/paperspast?a=d&cl=search&d=CHP19170802.2.29 and paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/cgi-bin/paperspast?a=d&cl=search&d=EP19130129.2.55 Stuartyeates (talk) 07:26, 9 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
Should the article be moved? - Shudde talk 08:22, 9 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
We should be in no particular hurry to move it; but we can certainly look for original sources. I'm thinking Hector's will, historical RSNZ, historical sources around the first award are where we should be looking. Stuartyeates (talk) 09:24, 9 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
I think that for a long time it was officially the Hector Memorial Medal but referred to as the Hector Medal for short. It seems it was still the Hector Memorial Medal in 1960 [1] (when the Transactions at NLNZ run out). By 1998 (the earliest year I can find Yearbooks) they seemed to be calling it the Hector Medal (and only referring to the Hector Memorial Medal historically) [2]. Those early sources you mention Stuart will be no use. The answer probably lies between 1960 and 1998. Nurg (talk) 23:16, 9 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
