Translation of terms edit

a few comments regarding the translation of a few terms related to this topic:

Tribe is actually "qabila", while "Ashira" fits into the "clan" category as it's smaller and can be composed of several families. "Fukkdh" is larger than a clan and sometimes can be as large as a tribe. Usually, a tribe is composed of several "fukhdhs" along with a "batn" (literally means stomach) which is the center "fukhdh" of the tribe and where the tribe chieftens are from.

federation of tribes is called "sh'ab" in Arabic if the tribes are related or "hulf" if they are not related.

The HIC map as source edit

I just checked out this map and typed it up. Someone might want to compare what is on this article with the tribes listed in this map. MPS 22:43, 17 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Another way to organise edit

I was thinking about this some more. Another way to organize it might be to list all the families and tribes all together and then talk about them elswhere or in a table. MPS 22:43, 17 March 2007 (UTC) Example:Reply

Not objective? edit

The section on the Al Ayoubi family, under 'Tikrit area' is surely just vandalism? It's more like a eulogy than an encylopedia entry. Can anyone who knows more than I do advise whether this contains any valid content? Earthlyreason (talk) 14:03, 3 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Given the lack of objection or comment, I've deleted this part. Earthlyreason (talk) 04:54, 14 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

It seems that more blatant POV material praising the 'Al Ayoubi family' has been introduced, and then deleted by sensible editors. Should we be taking action against the perpetrators? Earthlyreason (talk) 06:44, 21 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Non arab tribes of Iraq? edit

The title of this article seems to suggest that not every tribe in Iraq is Arab. I know of other ethnic groups like the Kurds, Assyrians, Turkmen but I don't think "tribe" are used to describe their groups. In fact the word "arab" is not even used in the lead section. So is the word "arab" even necessary in the title?--Prisencolin (talk) 01:15, 28 February 2016 (UTC)Reply
