Kieran Smith is an American swimmer from Ridgefield, Connecticut. He qualified for the 2020 Olympic Games in the 400m Freestyle and 200m Freestyle.[4][5] Smith attends University of Florida where he set the American and NCAA record in the 500 Free in a time of 4:06.32 at the 2020 SEC Championships.[6] On July 25, 2021, Smith won a bronze medal in the 400 meter freestyle at the 2020 Summer Olympics, finishing in 3:43.94.[7][8]

Early life

Smith attended and graduated from Ridgefield High School in 2018.[9]

Career

University of Florida

2020-21

During his junior year, Smith made NCAA A and B cuts in various events.[5] At the 2021 US Open Water Championships, Smith placed 7th in the Men's 5K and 10th in the 10k.[10][5] At the 2021 US Olympic Swimming Trials, Smith won both the 400m and 200m freestyle, qualifying for the Olympic Games. He posted new lifetime bests of 3:44.89 in the 400m freestyle and 1:45.29 in the 200m freestyle.[11][12][13]

2019-20

During his sophomore year, Smith set the 500 free American, NCAA, SEC, and Florida record with a 4:06.32 at the SEC Championships.[5]

2018-2019

During Smith's freshman year he earned first team All-American honors.[5]

Ridgefield Aquatic Club

In 2016 and 2017 Smith was named CHSCA Swimmer of the Year.[5] In 2017, he qualified for the US National Junior Team and earned a silver medal at the FINA Junior World Championship in the 200 m individual medley. In 2018, he achieved world-ranked times in the 200m (31st) and 400m (42nd) individual medleys.
