The ability to record 4K (3840 × 2160) resolution video internally, without the need of additional equipment unlike the older α7 II variation, make it highly desirable for filmmakers. In December 2016, JAXA installed a Sony α7S II on the International Space Station, capturing the first commercial 4K footage in space.
