Dual gauge between 1,435 mm (4 ft 8+12 in) gauge and 1,067 mm (3 ft 6 in) have existed since the 1970s in Western Australia for heavy duty main line use. The only unknown is the speed of these main lines. Dual gauge with 1,000 mm (3 ft 3+38 in) would has practically the same, as the difference between 1067mm and 1000mm is tiny.

The gaps of 435mm and 367mm are enough to allow strong turnouts to be built. Tabletop (talk) 11:09, 6 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
