Americans speak American but they generally believe that they speak English. They are quickly disabused of this notion when they vist England.I would have more respect if they could just grasp this as a nation. There is nothing wrong with speaking American and they should embrace the fact that they have a language that is theirs and no one else's. My observations are not new but the differences between American and English are greater than ever and American should be recognised for its individuality , its pronunciation ,its grammar and its repository of archaic English words that are no longer used in English.
