Doctored photo

This is certainly a photo contemporaneously doctored "for clarity", which was common in those days. Note that the "R.M.S. Titanic" lettering on the foreground boat is a bit too good, and that the other boats show no hint of white-painted lettering. Note also, that the lifeboats actually received the "S.S.
