I have noticed some minor problems with this very detailed presentation. This is my first contribution so I don't want to edit the image article and break something.

  • (6) appears to be an inductor, or ferrite bead (not a resistor).
  • (5) and (9) are more likely to be locating pins, rather than performing any major mechanical function after assembly, as they need to have a clearance, and this will allow movement. (SMT solder joints are usually stronger than the adhesive holding the copper foil to the board substrate, but repeated movement can cause them to crack.)
  • The decal layer is printed, or silkscreened (although the term "painted" is not incorrect).
  • The positioning of component designators is determined manually by the PCB designer.
  • The red plastic coating is "solder mask", its function is to prevent solder flowing away from component pads down connecting tracks, or shorting between pads. Insulation is a secondary function.
