File talk:Mitre of Saint Chrysostomos Metropolitan of Smyrna.jpg

I have no idea whether or not Chrysostomos is a saint. The historical facts however are:

- He was a subject of the Ottoman Empire, a free citizen under the protection of Sublime Porte. - He was also the Greek Orthodox Metropolitan of Smyrna. at the time (1919) Greek Armies attempted to invade Western Turkey, backed by the British Empire. - He was overjoyed with the Greek invasion. He believed that a quick victory was imminent. - He did not mind expressing his joy, by inviting Leonidas Paraskevopulos (commander of invading Greek forces)to his residence few days after Greeks' invasion of Symrna. Together, they saluted and welcomed the invading army, from the balcony of Metropolit's residence. - The aid Brits had promised to Greeks however was not sustained long. They were badly trashed and defeated by the Turkish Army; literally kicked back into the Agean Sea. - The Greek Army had to run back in such a hurry, they forgot to take the Metropolit along with them. in their heroic (!) escape. - When the Turkish Army recaptured Symrna back,in 1922, Chrysontomos was caught and shot as the traitor he was.
