If I knew how to update the map myself, I would :(

If you read the explanation on the map and on the caption for it, you will see that it works with averages. The Evil Spartan (talk) 18:47, 8 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Algorithm edit

OK, there seems to have been some issues concerning the algorithm. Although it is explained on the image page, here is an in depth explanation. It is less complex than it might seem.

Check how many polls occurred in the last 45 days previous to the last poll. For example, if the last poll was on May 15, you would check back to March 31 (I believe).

a) If the answer is less than 3, then simply average the previous three polls (if available).
b) If the answer is 4, then average those.
c) If the answer is 5, then average all of these, but throw out the outliers on either end. So, if there were 7 polls in this period, there would be 5 averaged, with the most pro-McCain and the most pro-Obama poll tossed.

If part c is too complicated, and someone carrying on this image is confused by it, feel free to throw it out (and modify b accordingly) - however, please change the explanation text. The Evil Spartan (talk) 08:32, 10 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

what does the distorted image represent? edit

Why is it distorted? Is it political leaning? Electoral power? ηoian ‡orever ηew ‡rontiers 02:12, 9 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

According to the source webpage, it is a "population cartogram" based off of 2000 census data. The Evil Spartan (talk) 21:41, 9 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
Is it a Population cartogram, or an electoral votes (i.e. the higher the number of electoral votes for each State, the bigger the State) cartogram? I guess it's the second, but just to be on the safe side... Mz74 (talk) 13:48, 30 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
