Other Colors edit

There is a grey island off Yugoslavia, a grey dot in the Solomons; a grey island in an island group to the East of the Solomons; many grey islands in the East Pacific; some brown color for the Aleutians and an orange Lichtenstein, Vatican, Andorra, San Marino and Monaco. These colors are not on the legend.--208.102.210.163 (talk) 16:34, 10 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Czechoslovakia edit

Czechoslovakia did not leave League of Nations. It was rare island of democracy in (Central) Europe until Nazi invasion. --NeuP (talk) 20:46, 16 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Restored Czechoslovakia even attended the last Assembly meeting in 1946. --Pavlor (talk) 18:50, 11 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

France edit

What on earth is going on with France? The implication appears to be that the part of France that was occupied by the Germans remained in the League, while Vichy France left it. This seems like nonsense. The statement in the article on League of Nations members is that Vichy left the League, which was not recognized by the Free French. It's fine, I suppose, for it not to be recognized by the Free French. But a) the Free French did not control occupied France. In so far as occupied France had a French government, it recognized Vichy; and b) even if the Free French did not recognize France having departed from the League, they themselves, not claiming to be a government, could not represent France in the League. Meaning that after 1941, France had no representation in the League. Certainly dividing the map the way it is now obfuscates rather than illuminates. john k (talk) 01:15, 6 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Morocco edit

The north of Morocco was part of Spain as "Spanish Protectorade", as like as in the South of Morocco (Sidi Ifni) and Tarfaya. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 150.214.54.179 (talk) 11:20, 27 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Tibet edit

Tibet was independent during this period and was not a member, if my knowledge is correct. Perhaps it should be added? Mnmazur (talk)

I was wondering about the same thing. 193.188.105.25 (talk) 08:34, 16 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
Explanation: check the map edition history. On this map Tibet was first shown as independant, then somebody edited it (2008-09-03T07:09:01) in order to integrate it into China. His comment "According to a map of Republic of China published in 1914, Tibet and Mongolia were belong to China at that time." seems erroneous to me because this map reflects the League of Nations positions, therefore no one can modify it to reflect a map which is anterior to the very LoN existence and was not published by it (the map used to correct the LoN map is a private US-made one). The map reflects China's internationally recognized borders at the time. The internationally recognized borders of sovereign states do not necessarily reflect 100% control over a territory 100% of the time, as occasionally rebels seize control over the lawful territory of a sovereign state and war with that state. International law is accommodating of states when this sort of event happens. And so, by convention, maps do not show the sort of "de facto independence" that for example Tamil Eelam had during the Sri Lankan Civil War. That some editors may push for Tibet to be treated differently on historical maps is but a reflection of the political power of today's Tibetan independence movement; this kind of politicking meets natural resistance among those who value historical accuracy. How to upload a new version edit

I did an updated version of this, but I couldn't quite figure out how to update the current one. I accidentally uploaded a new one, found here: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:League_of_Nations_Anachronous_Map.png - I guess I put the filending in lowercase instead of uppercase. My new version is for minor beautification, no factual changes. Any help? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Reallyjoel (talkcontribs) 16:36, 5 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
