Black site edit

Hey, the black site on here is in Myanamar(Burma) but the suspected one is in Thailand. Any chance it could be changed? Falphin 21:14, 5 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Have you a source for that? Blackcap (talk) 16:21, 8 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
Will our own article article do? I can look up news articles if necessary, but I've never heard Burma on the list. Falphin 16:43, 8 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
O.K., I see the Thailand reference (cf. [1] (question 7), [2], although it's been denied by the Thai government, cf. [3] and [4]), and a quick search didn't reveal anything on black sites in Myanmar, even if its human rights laws are fairly lousy. I'm contacting the image maker to see where his source is from and to ask him about adding in Thailand. Blackcap (talk) 18:04, 10 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Inclusion of Ireland (and maybe others) in "countries with detainees transported through"? edit

There's a fair amount of controversy over this one. US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice had denied the reports, and Irish Foreign Minister Dermot Ahern seems to have accepted that [5], but then there's substantial concern that these assurances are meaningless (see, for example, Amnesty International's Senior Director of Regional Programmes Claudio Cordone's comments in the AI article, fourth paragraph). Amnesty International has published a report saying that "six planes used by the CIA for renditions have made some 800 flights in European airspace including 50 landings at Shannon airport in the Republic of Ireland" (subtitle, italics mine). And the New York Times hace published a similar story (login required, registration is free), which while emphasizing the speculative nature of the accusations also underlines the suspicion throughout all of Europe for Ireland and other countries, such as Spain and Italy.

So, do we have a color for, say, "countries who may have have detainees tranported through them"? Personally, I would rather have that then leave things as they are, provided that all of the "speculative" countries have a RS giving reason to believe in the possibility (i.e., the AI article for Ireland). Blackcap (talk) 16:21, 8 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Despite the description here the caption at the article makes it clear that this is all alleged. As it most certainly has been alleged (and credibly, in my opinion) that the planes landed at Shannon I think the case for Ireland in light blue is at least as strong as for the UK. The descritption on the Image page should probably be updated to make it clear that these are all allegations, though. --Craig Stuntz 20:19, 10 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
Agreed. Blackcap (talk) 20:24, 10 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
I've added Ireland (and NI) based on discussion). There appears to be no Hawaii in the template. I also updated some other countries. Burma/Thailand confusion was my silly mistake. While other countries are "investigating the possibility", I haven't seen other solid allegations. Ditto the recent Amnesty reports on plane movements; landing of a plane that does renditions does not equal transporting those being ER'd.--Carwil 19:52, 11 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

I don't know if this is under the right headline but: maybe Greenland should be included under "countries with detainees transported through"?.. Look at this and sorry my english. --Dobbeltjohn (talk) 23:37, 2 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hawaii appears to be missing edit

Title says it all, really. I'll add it in myself if I can figure out how to do it, and do it well. Despite that, though, if someone who actually knows what they're doing in the image realm would like to put it in then so much the better (and not least for me). Northern Ireland appears to be in a constitutional dilemma edit

Should probably be the same colour as the rest of the United Kingdom. theKeith   19:03, 10 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Yes, it should be. Probably. Blackcap (talk) 20:13, 10 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
That's a non-issue if the planes have landed in Glasgow and Shannon. --Craig Stuntz 20:15, 10 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
It's nitpicky, that's all. If we're going to make a bunch of changes to the image anyway, we may as well take another minute and fix the color for NI properly. Blackcap (talk) 20:20, 10 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
Sorry, I just noticed it when I was looking at the article. Thought I would bring it up, so next time the image was being updated, they could add it. theKeith
No apologies necessary, fair play to ya :). Blackcap (talk) 20:44, 10 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
All I mean is that the entire island should be light-blue. --Craig Stuntz 19:49, 11 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Fuzzy edit

Why are the borders all fuzzy? Seems someone used a bad compression. How about a .png version? Joffeloff 17:18, 16 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Poland as a black site edit

The AI Report does not mention Poland as a "black site". Micga 11:00, 12 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

However, it does reference a Washington Post article which does (see the Amnesty International article mentioned at the end of the image page, reference 13, and the Washington Post article that it in turn references, "CIA Holds Terror Suspects in Secret Prisons".
