Added this logo under the fair-use policy and used a vert small version of the company logo. In the meantime informed the copyright holder of the use of the picture, requesting permission to use it and/or invite them to upload a version themselves as owners of the copyright. Content of the mail sent:

Hi,

I wrote articles on Wikipedia on your company. I first wrote the article for the Dutch language Wikipedia on http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alticom and then also wrote the English language version on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alticom

On the English language Wikipedia it is sometimes accepted to use a copyright protected image of the company logo under the ‘fair use of logo’ rules. This rule doesn’t apply to the Dutch language version of Wikipedia.

I would appreciate it if you could check the article on correctness and if you see errors please inform me (or correct it yourself). Before you choose to correct/change the article yourself I must inform you that any information on Wikipedia (regardless of the language) must be neutral and shouldn’t include ‘original research’: that means that any information given on the page must be sourced from an external independant source. Although the company website isn’t really an independent source it is allowed to use it as source for simple facts – although other sources for information on the page is always more then welcome.

As you can see on the English language version I included your logo in the template ‘Infobox company’ (if it is still there when you read this). To prevent deletion of the logo and/or to make it possible to use the logo also in the Dutch language (and maybe other versions) it would be great if you –as copyright owner- would allow the use of the logo. Although it is possible to grant someone (eg me) permission to use the logo the procedure to get it accepted is complicated. If you want to allow the use of your logo the easiest way is to upload the logo yourself to Wikimedia Commons: from Commons everyone (read: every language version of Wikipedia and also other projects) can use the file. Currently it is uploaded to the English language version of Wikipedia only.

To prevent abuse you can consider uploading a special low-resolution version of the logo: it is then fine to use it as (small) logo in an article but the risk of abuse of the logo is greatly reduced because people won’t be able to use a large version of the uploaded file (and when they would use the logo directly from the website you can complain to the user that he uses copyright protected material: you only gave permission to others to use the uploaded low-res version).

If you are prepared to upload a logo (and/or other graphical files you own the copyrights on) you can upload it to: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Main_Page you can use the user-friendly upload-wizzard on http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:UploadWizard

If you only want to upload another version of the logo on the English Wikipedia you can overwrite the existing file on: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Alticom_bv_;logo.png

Attached: the source file as uploaded to Wikipedia. The logo was taken from www.alticom.nl and then edited using Microsoft Paint.

If company/copyright owner would reply that they don't appreciate the use of the file I will immediatly delete it from here. Tonkie (talk) 18:57, 29 July 2011 (UTC)Reply
