English: Willey Furnace Cottages An iron furnace site in the countryside close to Broseley. The furnace was active from the 1750s to 1804 operated by ironmaster John Wilkinson. The furnace site was to the left hand side of the second building, Wilkinson House. There was limited water supply at the site and it is suggested that reliance was made on steam pumps to recirculate the available water. The centre of the industry later moved into the Ironbridge Gorge. The area lies in the South Shropshire Coalfield and coal, iron and fireclay were won locally.
