English: BUILT IN 1872 AND NOW IS LOCATED ON THE CAMPUS OF MONTCLAIR STATE UNIVERSITY; NAMED AFTER THOMAS C. VAN REYPER, WHO DESIGNED THE HOME’S ITALIANATE ARCHITECTURE. HIS WIFE, CAROLINE SPEER, WAS A DESCENDANT OF DUTCH SETTLERS IN SPEERTOWN, NOW KNOWN AS UPPER MONTCLAIR.
