Summary
| Description | La Seu d´Urgell -Catedral dedicada a Santa Maria. Fou iniciada pel bisbe Ot (1116-22). És una basílica de trs naus itranssepte molt llarg ( amb cúpula sobre el creuer), en el qual s´obtren cinc absis a llevant, però només el central surt exteriorment (és dotat d´una elegant galeria superior i té un absidiol buidat interiorment), mentre que els laterals s´inscriuen en el gruix del mur. Les voltes són de canó, reforçada la de la nau central i d´aresta les laterals. Hi ha cinc portals, tres a la façana principal de ponent i els altres a tramuntana i a migdia; aquests són el més decorats, possiblement del segle XII. Dues torres octogonals emmarquen el frontispici. ornamentat a la part superior per arcuacions i sanefes i, sobre el portal principal, dos lleons molt deteriorats. Dues torres majors, rectangulars, s´alcen a banda i banda del transepte. El claustre ,situat a migdia de la catedral, té planta rectangular. Tres de les seves ales conserven la galeria romànica, mentre que la de llevant fou substituïda el 1603 per uns arcs i pilastres sense decoració. Els capitells del claustre mostren una clara influència rossellonesa. Esculpits en dur granit, ostenten termes ornamentals o figuratius. |
