The statue was inaugurated on Nov. 4, 2011.
"In commemoration of the Nagasaki-born Japanese friend Umeya Shokichi’s generous support to Sun Yat-sen and the Chinese democratic revolution and in praise of the historic contributions by the past Chinese and Japanese wise men to the friendly relations between the two nations, Shanghai accepted the statue of Umeya Shokichi presented by Nagasaki Prefecture. The statue is placed in Shaoxing Park in Huangpu District."
