Summary
| Description | The U.S. Navy submarine USS Pomodon (SS-486) following her "GUPPY I" refit at the Mare Island Naval Shipyard. Following the Second World War, the U.S. Navy studied German Type XXI submarines, which featured a greatly increased underwater speed and endurance. The first restult was the "Greater Underwater Propulsive Power Program" (GUPPY) reconstruction of Odax (SS-484) and Pomodon in 1947. Both submarines were received a more streamlined hull, a new streamlined sail, and a double amount of batteries. |
