The U.S. Navy aircraft carrier USS Intrepid (CVA-11) at Naval Station Norfolk, Virginia, in 1957. Note the newer style of markings on her angled flight deck, although the hull number is still repeated on the ramp. The carrier USS Valley Forge (CVS-45) is moored opposite of Intrepid, behind Valley Forge are two amphibious command ships, USS Mount McKinley (AGC-7) and USS Taconic (AGC-17). The command ship USS Northampton (CLC-1) is visible at left. |
