English: The UBC Asian Centre Building at 1871 West Mall road in Vancouver, BC, Canada. This building houses the UBC Department of Asian Studies and the volumnious Asian Library which occupies three floors for its collection of books and manuscripts. UBC was originally awarded the roof and structural framework from the Sanyo Pavillion which had been built for the 1970 World Exposition in Osaka, Japan, to serve as the foundation for the future Asian Centre--ie. this building. Construction began in January 1974 and after 7 years of fund-raising, it was finally completed and opened to students and the public in 1981.
