English: TID 172 was completed on 13 February 1946 and served with Nore Command under N.O.I.C. Lowestoft named Martello.
  • (1946) Named W 92.
  • (1959) Named T.I.D. 172 again
  • (1967) Used as a relief tug
  • (1967) Leased to the Dutch Navy for approx 2 years.
  • (1973) Sold for preservation.

The T.I.D. class tug was designed to quickly and cheaply replace tugs lost during World War II. The origin of the 'TID' abbreviation remains uncertain. 182 vessels were built between 1943 and 1946, numbered TID 1 to 183 but with no number 13.

  • Length 65 ft.
  • Breadth 17 ft.
  • Depth 8ft to top of plate keel amidships.
  • Draught about 6 ft on even keel with half bunkers.
