Summary

Description

A three-component Brunnian link which is not the Borromean rings – no two triangles are directly interlinked, but all three are collectively interlinked, and cutting any triangle will free the other two. For another three-component Brunnian link which is not the same as the Borromean rings, see Image:Brunnian-3-not-Borromean.png .

A version of this figure is found in the sixth century Marundheeswarar Temple in Thiruvanmayur, South Chennai, India, associated with the goddess Tripurasundari (see external page http://www.liv.ac.uk/%7Espmr02/rings/maths.html ).

The three interlaced triangles are a minor symbol in some New Age / occultist / neo-pagan circles (presumably with a different preferred color scheme), and for such purposes it is occasionally called "the star of the muses". For a revised version of this image presumably more artistically suited to such symbolic uses, see Image:Interlaced-Triangles quasi-Arabesque Brunnian-link.svg .
