English: In centuries past, lepers would bathe in this well in the belief that they would be healed by its water. According to local tradition, lepers would first be blessed by the priest of St Nicholas' Church, which is in Codsall, before making their way to the Leper Well to bathe. It has been speculated that a nearby farmhouse, which bears the name "Leper House", could have been the site of a leprosy hospital.
The well itself is in very good condition: the oval-shaped structure is lined with bricks, and the remains of some small brick steps that lead down into the water can still be seen, although they are beginning to crumble slightly. The water is sulphurous, and visitors have reported that, if one gets close enough to the water, a definite "eggy" smell arises.
