Description
English: The Grylls Monument, Helston. This monument stands at the bottom of Coinagehall street and was erected in 1834 shortly after the death of the person it commemorates, Humphry Millet Grylls. In 1830 Grylls, a prominent local citizen used his influence with the banks to stop them closing down the Wheal Vor mines at a time of recession. The monument cost £324 which was raised by local miners who thanks to Grylls still had work.
